The Pittsburgh Botanic Garden (PBG) was originally incorporated as the Horticultural Society of Western Pennsylvania in 1988 to plan and build the region’s first comprehensive outdoor botanic garden. Not only is PBG a regional amenity dedicated to attracting local, national and international visitors, it is a living model of environmental reclamation. The Woodland Gardens is one of the first areas built out in the PBG and will eventually feature nine “Family Moments” along the trail. Buhl funding supported one of the first Family Moments, “Let’s Get to the Root of the Matter.” This Family Moment acquaints visitors with the forest floor while providing fun activities for children.
