The mission of City of Asylum is to provide homes and services for exiled writers and poets from around the world. Through an eclectic partnership with the Mattress Factory and the neighborhood, City of Asylum has grown from its exile mission into a cultural institution. And, in the process, City of Asylum has become a community anchor in its North Side neighborhood. A grant from the Buhl Foundation will support the development of a new Literacy Center on Pittsburgh’s North Side which will serve as a further stabilizing influence while providing a range of cultural experiences.
